BioGrand-daughter of the school's founder, Tsunade lived by her own rules growing up, encouraged by her parents' lack of interest in whatever she did. The diamond shaped tattoo on her forehead is rumored to be a memento of that time of her life, along with her surprising strength. Her great fondness for drinking and gambling (despite the negative effects of the former and her complete lack of skill at the latter) didn't prevent her from getting through medical school with top marks. A natural in the medical field, her profession and personal lives were both going great, with her career as a surgeon going strong, and a kind, handsome boyfriend named Joshu Dan. Tragically things came crashing down after Dan was hit by a car right in front of Tsunade. The hemophobia she developed as a result of shock and grief affected her ability to perform competently as a surgeon. She left the field only to spend the next few years wandering in a cycle of drinking, gambling her money away, and occasionally getting it back. Tsunade finally stopped her travels when representatives of Oshima High contacted her with an offer of becoming the new principal. Although it took some convincing, she accepted in the end, and has run the school ever since.
